Economic Research Analyst

The Economic Analyst will play a pivotal role in interpreting financial and economic data to inform business strategies, policy decision, and market forecasts. They will utilize her expertise in economic theory and quantitative analysis to assess trends, evaluate economic issues, and predict future economic conditions. Their work is essential for decision-makers who rely on accurate and insightful economic assessments to navigate complex financial landscapes and drive economic growth.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Collecting, analyzing, and interpreting economic data to understand market trends, economic conditions, and financial risks using statistical software and econometric methods
  • Developing economic models to forecast market trends and assess the impact of economic policies.
  • Interpreting data on production, labor markets, consumer behavior, and international trade.
  • Writing reports and presenting findings to stakeholders, policymakers, or academic audiences.
  • Advising businesses and our clients on economic decisions.
  • Monitoring economic developments in specific sectors or regions
  • Evaluating the economic effects of legislation, regulations, and public policies.
  • Contributing to policy recommendations based on economic analysis
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to provide insights on market dynamics.
  • Staying current with economic literature, trends, and events to ensure analyses are up to date.
  • Providing expertise to support investment decisions and risk assessments (internally and externally)
  • Communicating complex economic concepts to non-expert audiences in a clear and effective manner.
  • Gather and organize economic data from various sources
  • Conducting preliminary data analysis using statistical software
  • Assisting in the preparation of reports and presentations
  • Learning and applying econometric models and other analytical tools
  • Maintain and update quantitative and qualitative economic, financial, or statistical datbases.
  • Supporting senior management and other teams in larger research projects
  • Attending workshops and training to improve technical skills
  • Researching and contributing to monthly or weekly economic newsletter and or website content.
  • Work closely with other teams to produce the high-quality analytics and research that underpins our industry, competitors, market trends and consumers
  • Prepare and present reports (weekly, monthly and annually)

Skills and qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in economics, or related field.
  • 3 years of relevant work experience in a similar capacity.
  • Proficiency in statistical, econometric, and graphical presentation tools and data base management.
  • Sound knowledge of relevant software and econometrics tools.
  • Good communication skills (written and spoken)
  • Attention to detail and sound problem-solving skills
  • Certification as Certified Analytics Professional (CAP), Certified Financial Analyst (CEFA), or any other relevant certification will be added advantage.

Salary range

  • R650 000 – R1 550 000 per year depending on experience and skills
