A Compliance or Corporate Compliance Consultant is responsible for overseeing organizations’ compliance with government laws and regulations.
Duties and responsibilities
- To consult, advise and report to companies (clients) regarding relevant domestic and international legislation: compliance and governance to ensure adherence to relevant codes; regulations and rules thereby minimizing risk to and protecting the reputation of companies
- Provide regulatory support and expertise in the formulation and completion of compliance risk management plans (CRMP’s)
- Advise and support businesses in terms of applicability of legislation and in so doing,, mitigate risk
- Conduct thorough compliance assessments to identify regulatory obligations and ensure that internal policies are aligned with current laws and regulations across industries.
- Develop, implement, and maintain compliance programs and policies that promote a culture of compliance within organizations.
- Coordinating with companies’ management to identify potential risks, implementing policies and procedures to uphold laws and regulations and monitoring the companies’ adherence to those policies and procedures
- Identifying and eliminating the risks of noncompliance, both externally and internally in organizations
- Develop internal company policies and see that they are respected
- Make sure organizations have a clearly defined program for complying with the country’s laws
- Identify specific industry-wide laws and develop, implement and maintain customized solutions for organizations’ unique needs and challenges
- Constantly report to management and clients concerning the organization’s compliance with laws and regulations
- Take action in dealing with noncompliance situations, creating realistic plans to overcome them
- Conduct regular audits to identify clients’ potential weaknesses and noncompliance situations
- Help corporates to protect their credibility by maintaining safe and ethical business practices
- Review financial statements, operating procedures and employee feedback to determine whether a company maintains legal operations
- Identify areas of noncompliance and coordinate with management and employees to develop improvement plans
- Visit clients’ departments or company branches to perform random internal audits to ensure compliance with laws and regulations at all levels of the company
- Provide audit support and assist with the preparation and filling of compliance reports as and when required.
- Stay abreast of changes in legislation and facilitate training sessions to implement operational changes successfully
- Ensure adherence to regulations across industries, including the implementation and enhancement of a Quality Assurance process.
- Daily evaluation of Risk Rating, AVS and Lexis Nexis AML screening (Word check) reports on client workflow
- Monitoring of the High-Risk Client Register according to Compliance Program (RMCP)
- Reporting all High-Risk incidents to management in organizations
- Identify, investigate and report any compliance related issues or suspicious transactions
- Conduct rigorous quality assurance which includes the monitoring and measurement of team rework to ensure the accurate and consistent application of compliance principles
- Assist in identifying the company’s regulatory compliance needs as well as the implementation of monthly knowledge assessments regarding the official Risk Management and Compliance Document (RMCP)
- Ensure that ongoing due diligence process is put in place and facilitate the review of all clients’ transactions within the time periods stipulated in the Risk Management and Compliance Program (RMCP)
- Assist with ad-hoc compliance requests and queries from various clients
- Provide audits reports and assist with the preparation and filling of compliance reports as and when required
- Build close relationships with clients and their teams to ensure continuity and best business practice.
Compliance Consultant Skills and Qualifications
A successful candidate must have:
- BCom Law, LLB or equivalent undergraduate degree
- Compliance Practitioner (SA)/CPrac. (SA)/Admitted Attorney
- 3 – 5 years’ experience in FIC Compliance with a thorough understanding of compliance pertaining to Corporate and Government laws and regulations across industries
- Experience in the following Financial Services industries is an advantage: LISP, Collective Investment Schemes, Retirement Funds, Retail, Transportation & Logistics, and skills in Excel, and relevant regulatory and compliance experience inter alia Banks Act, Financial Intelligence Act, National Credit Act, Insurance Act as well as willing to learn and develop compliance plans based on legal frameworks applicable to other industries.

Salary range
- R631 500 – R1 450 000 per year (depending on experience, skills and qualifications
- Additional statutory compensation benefits are applicable
